To meet the demands of harsh environments, large equipment manufacturers use powder coating to protect their products. Powder Coating offers exceptional durability, flexibility, and resistance to chemicals, corrosion, and impact. However, manufacturers must use the right powder coating products, and that means coatings that are tested and meet stringent specifications. But that’s not all, they must also apply them properly.

Pretreatment

To achieve the best results from a powder coated finish, the receiving surface must be thoroughly cleaned. It should be free of dust, oil, rust, old paint or other coatings. Any contaminant left on the surface will affect the powder’s adhesion and durability.

Production Systems offers pretreatment systems, including sanding and grinding booths and parts washers, all designed to properly prepare the machine surface for the coating process. Production Systems also offers industrial ovens for those instances where drying is needed from a wash station or when a specific temperature needs to be met.

Application

For effective application of a powder coating, a powder spray gun system that’s made specifically for this finish is needed. The powder is blown from the gun forming a powder cloud that surrounds the part. The powder sticks to the surface of the uncoated part providing a beautiful protective coating.

Powder Spray Booths

The main reason for spray booths in the powder coating system is to contain overspray. Whenever powder is sprayed, some powder will undoubtedly not land on the part, but on the floor and in the air. The enclosed spray booth contains the extra spray assuring it remains in the workspace and not in the rest of the shop.

Reasons for a high-quality spray booth:

  • The booth confines the overspray keeping it out of the rest of the shop
  • Exhausts and filters keep the air flowing, preventing contamination of future processes and enabling the technician to see
  • Provides protection for your process by keeping contaminants originating from other areas of the shop away from the powder coated space
  • Spray booth reclamation systems can recycle overspray allowing it to be reused

Production Systems offers a wide range of spray booths to meet your company’s needs. Our booths assist in providing quality results while keeping production levels high.

Curing The Coating

The final step of the powder coating process is curing. Industrial ovens are needed for this process. Production Systems offers ovens for finishing processes, including powder coating ovens, process and batch ovens, and process enclosures.
